북미기준 5월 5일 일반에게도 공개하기로한 Windows 7 RC가 정식으로 공개되었습니다.
아쉽게도 한글판 RC는 공개되지 않았고 English,German,Japanese,Spanish,Franch의 5가지 언어의 RC가 공개되었습니다.
다운로드는 32bit, 64bit모두 다운로드 가능하며, 다운로드를 받는 페이지에서 평가판 Product Key가 제공됩니다.
물론 이미 영문판 RC는 토런트 등에 유출된 상황이지만, 어쨌거나 정식으로 공개됐다는 점에서 Windows 7이 조금 더 가까이 다가 온 것 같습니다 :)

This is pre-release software, so please read the following to get an idea of the risks and key things you need to know before you try the RC.
You don't need to rush to get the RC. The RC will be available at least through July 2009 and we're not limiting the number of product keys, so you have plenty of time.
Watch the calendar. The RC will expire on June 1, 2010. Starting on March 1, 2010, your PC will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will notify you two weeks before the bi-hourly shutdowns start. To avoid interruption, you’ll need to install a non-expired version of Windows before March 1, 2010. You’ll also need to install the programs and data that you want to use. (Learn more about installing Windows.)
Protect your PC and data. Be sure to back up your data and please don't test the RC on your primary home or business PC.

Keep your PC updated: Be sure to turn on automatic updates in Windows Update in case we publish updates for the RC.
Installation: You can install the Windows 7 RC on a PC running Windows Vista without backing up the PC—but we encourage you to make a backup for safe keeping. If you’re running Windows XP or the Windows 7 Beta, you’ll need to backup your data, then do a clean installation of the RC, then reinstall your applications and restore your data. 현재 TechNet과 MSDN쪽으로 개발자 및 MVP와 Windows테스터들 중심으로 Windows 7 RC(Release-Cadidate)를 발표하였습니다.
일반에 대해 RC공개는 북미기준 5월5일에 공개한다고 발표하였습니다.
이번 RC버전은 7000대 빌드부터 이루어진 Feedback을 바탕으로 버그 등을 수정하고 기능을 개선, 추가하였다고 합니다.
빌드도 빌드인 만큼 이 이상으로 더 이상 커다란, 기능상의 추가작업은 없고 호환 등의 작업에 초점을 맞춘다고 합니다.
또한 Vista때 처럼 Beta1, Beta2, RC1, RC2등 많은 Preview버전을 공개한 점과는 달리, 이번 Windows 7은 이것이 처음이자 마지막이 될 공식적인 RC버전 이라고 합니다. (물론 기존에 빌드 6xxx~70xx대의 버전이 고의적(?) 유출이 되었지만 공식적인 발표는 거의 처음이라고 할 수 있습니다.)
남은 것은 최종판인 RTM(Release To Manufactering)뿐이라고 하네요.
이번 빌드의 가장 큰 특징은, 이전 버전인 XP의 호환성을 최대한 확보하기 위해서, 아예 Virtual PC를 이용하여 XP를 가상모드로 구동하는 방식을 채택하여 공개하였습니다. (기존에 XP,Vista처럼 호환모드 또한 제공하여 XP가상모드를 통하지 않고 구동할 수 있는 App또한 많다고 합니다.)
[각주:1]구동 방식이 VMware에서 Unity 기능과 비슷하다고 생각 됩니다만, 아직까지 제가 정식으로 구동해보지 못했기에 차후에 실행해본다면 다시 포스팅해드리겠습니다 :)
아무리 커널수정을 통해 호환성을 확보한다 하여도 그룹웨어나 기존에 XP를 타겟으로 제작된 App이 더이상 업데이트가 없을 경우 최신커널의 Windows 7에서는 100%호환을 보이지 못할 수도 있는데요.
이렇게 Virtual PC를 이용한 가상모드로 XP를 구동하여 App을 구동해 준다면 가상PC를 거부하는 App 빼고는 모두다 호환이 가능하다고 할 수 있겠네요^^
가상모드로 구동할 경우 에뮬레이션하는 것이기 때문에 구동상 느려진다는 단점이 있습니다만, 요즘 PC의 사양이 보통들 메모리가 2~4GB이상이고 CPU 또한 VT를 지원하기 때문에 예전의 그런 느린모습은 모이지 않을 것 같습니다:p
(참고로 Windows 7에서 Virtual PC를 통한 XP구동은 CPU에서 VT모드가 지원되지 않는다면 구동이 불가합니다!)
또한 한국의 MVP와 Windows테스터들에게는 한글판의 RC가 배포되었습니다.
아직 완벽한 로컬라이징은 되지 않았지만, 유출되었던 버전(빌드)에서 나타났던 한글의 깨짐현상 등은 아직까지 알려진 것이 없는 것으로 알고 있습니다.

미국 시간으로 1월 9일 Microsoft에서 Windows 7 Beta를 공개하였습니다.
공개 첫 날, 서버 폭주로 MS쪽에서 서버를 증설하는 등의 여러가지 헤프닝도 많았습니다.
다운로드는 약 250만명에게만 제공한다고 합니다. 250만명 제한에서을 철회하였고 다운로드 기한도 1월24일까지로 연장한다고 합니다. 그런데 서버 폭주 등의 사건으로 Product-key를 모두에게 제공하는 것이 아니라 정해진 키 10가지를 랜덤하게 제공하네요 :)
